Dr Amy Hicks is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Fertility Specialist who provides personalised, evidence-based care to women and couples at all stages of life, from adolescence through to menopause and fertility care.
She is known for her calm and compassionate approach, and for taking the time to listen carefully to each patient’s concerns. Her care is collaborative, respectful, and tailored to the individual.
PHILOSOPHY OF CARE
I understand that seeking gynaecological care can make people feel vulnerable. My core belief is simple. Every person deserves to be heard and never rushed.
In my private practice, I aim to create a safe and non-judgmental space where your concerns come first. I chose this path so that patients could experience continuity of care, have time to ask questions, and feel genuinely supported.
My approach is holistic and evidence-based, with a strong focus on patient autonomy. Whether we are navigating a complex diagnosis or attending to routine health care, my goal is for you to feel informed, supported, and confident in your decisions.
A PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE
Coming from a diverse family background, I understand the importance of culturally sensitive care. My husband and I are now raising our own young, busy family here in Perth, so I intimately know the challenges of balancing health, work, and parenting. I love the vibrant, outdoorsy lifestyle that WA offers, and I'm committed to supporting the health of the women in our community.
MY STORY
My path to specialising in women’s health grew from a deep respect for the strength and complexity of the issues women face around the world.
This began with seeing the challenges experienced by women and families in my mother’s birth country, Papua New Guinea. It continued through my work as a Sport Scientist, where I worked with developing and elite athletes. Observing the physiological challenges women face, together with the social environments in which they occur, sparked my passion to pursue a career in women’s health.
What I value most is the privilege of being an advocate and partner in someone’s care. That might involve solving a complex surgical problem, guiding a couple through fertility challenges, or helping someone regain control over their menstrual health.
The long-term relationships formed with patients, and seeing them feel more empowered in their health, is what makes this work so meaningful to me.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN MY CARE
The private practice model allows us to prioritise the quality of time we spend together.
Time
Your initial consultation is usually 30 to 60 minutes, rather than the typical 15 minute appointment. This allows time to properly understand your history and concerns.
Listening
You will have the space to explain your concerns fully and ask questions. My priority is to listen carefully and ensure you feel understood.
Collaboration
We will explore appropriate options together. My role is to provide clear guidance so you can make informed decisions that suit your circumstances.
Accessibility
You will have direct contact details for my practice for follow-up questions. We aim to ensure you feel supported even after your appointment.
Continuity
I manage your care personally from consultation through to treatment. The only exception is fertility procedures performed through Monash IVF West.
Comfort
My consulting rooms are designed to feel calm and welcoming. You are always welcome to bring a support person if that helps you feel more comfortable.

PUBLIC PRACTICE
In addition to private practice, I maintain active involvement in public hospital work at Fiona Stanley Hospital, a RANZCOG accredited training site, across both obstetrics and gynaecology. I am regularly involved in teaching and supervising junior doctors, contributing to ongoing medical education and training, participating in multidisciplinary meetings for complex obstetric and gynaecological patients. I view this as an important part of my clinical practice to ensure a wide network of colleagues and maintaining currency in my practice.
